"Andthere are 11 horses in the farm, and I saw 2 goats this morning and about 12 ducks. I couldn't count them properly because they wouldn't stay still. The hens wouldn't stay still either." "What about the cows?" said Mrs.Darling, Peter's mother. "Have count those?" Mrs.Darling asked. "Idon't like cows," said Peter. "They have big horns and hey roar a me." "Oh, no" said Mrs.Darling. "Lions roar. Cows don't roar. They only moo. Well, it sounds just like roaring to me.," said Peter. "Idon't like cows at all. They are my enemies." "They are your good friends!" said Mrs.Darling. "They send you a lot of presens!. " "I've never seen a present from a cow!" said Peter. "Well here is one," said Mrs. Darling, and took out a jug of milk. She poured the milk into a mug and gave it to Peter. He drank it. "So that came from the cow, did it?" he said. "Well it was simply lovely!" At dinner time, Mrs. Darling put down a dish of stewed apples for Peter. He looked around for the custard that Mrs. Darling usually made for him. There wasn't any.
