The Witch's Egg

Once upon a time Sneaky the elf peeped into Witch Upadee's kitchen and saw her working a spell. First she took a small chocolate Easter egg and put it on a plate. Sneaky knew the kind. He sat himself on the windowsill and watched to see what happened next. Witch Upadee took a peacock's feather and stroked the tiny egg. Then she blew on it hard and chanted, "Grow, grow. Quick and slow. Make yourself sweet for witches to eat. Grow, grow. Quick and slow!" And, to Sneaky's enormous astonishment, that tiny chocolate egg began to grow big on the plate! how it grew! How it swelled up! My goodness, Sneaky did feel hungry when he saw that great egg of chocolate, all ready to be eaten, growing bigger and bigger! He nearly fell off the windowsill in surprise - and then, what a shock he got! Witch Upadee saw him and gave a shout of rage. She picked up her broom and swept him right off her windowsill! "You nasty little thing, always peeping and prying! Go away! You shan't see my spells!" But Sneaky had enough. He ran home grinning and rubbing his hands. He would make a chocolate egg grow like that, too - and my, what a lot of money he would make by selling it! He bought a chocolate egg and took it home. He set it on a plate and then went to borrow a peacock's feather from his friend next door. He stroked the egg with it, and then blew on it hard, feeling tremendously excited. Then he chanted loudly a magic song, "Grow, grow. Quick and slow. Make yourself sweet for fairies to eat. Grow, grow. Quick and slow!" The chocolate egg began to grow. How it grew! You should have seen it. It was a most marvellous sight. First it was as big as a hen's egg. Then as big as a goose's. Then as big as a swan's. Then as big as an ostrich's Then as big as a coal-scuttle - and it went on growing. Sneaky was delighted. He danced round in joy, watching the egg grow. It grew and it grew. Crack! It broke the plate with it's weight. But Sneaky didn't mind. He could buy lots of new plates with his money for that lovely egg! That the egg grew bigger then the table - and crack! One of the legs gave away, and then went the table and the egg, too. But still it went on growing! When it was as big as a large wheel-barrow, Sneaky thought it was big enough. After all, he had to get it out of the door and take it to the market - it wouldn't do for it too big! So he shouted to it. "Stop! Don't grow anymore, egg!" But the egg didn't take a bit of notice, no, not a bit. It just went on growing - and however much Sneaky begged it to stop it simply wouldn't. Sneaky didn't know the right words to say, you see! Well, it grew - and it grew - and it grew - and at last it can't grow anymore, because it was as big as the room itself - and poor Sneaky was squashed flat on one corner. And then in pressing itself against the ceiling, the egg broke! Out came a stream of sticky cream - all over poor Sneaky! After that the egg stopped growing, for the spell was broken. But do you know - the only way Sneaky could get out of the room was by eating his way through the egg! It took him 2 days - and oh, the mess he was in! And now, if you meet a small elf who says he simply can't BEAR Easter eggs, just ask him his name. It's sure to be Sneaky!

Peter was most excited becausehis mother and father had moved ito the country from the town. How dfferent it was! There were green lans instead of busy roads, big trees instead of tall chimneys, and such a lot of birds to see. "There are 32 sheeps and 6 little lambs!" said Peter to hs mother. "Andthere are 11 horses in the farm, and I saw 2 goats this morning and about 12 ducks. I couldn't count them properly because they wouldn't stay still. The hens wouldn't stay still either." "What about the cows?" said Mrs.Darling, Peter's mother. "Have count those?" Mrs.Darling asked. "Idon't like cows," said Peter. "They have big horns and hey roar a me." "Oh, no" said Mrs.Darling. "Lions roar. Cows don't roar. They only moo. Well, it sounds just like roaring to me.," said Peter. "Idon't like cows at all. They are my enemies." "They are your good friends!" said Mrs.Darling. "They send you a lot of presens!. " "I've never seen a present from a cow!" said Peter. "Well here is one," said Mrs. Darling, and took out a jug of milk. She poured the milk into a mug and gave it to Peter. He drank it. "So that came from the cow, did it?" he said. "Well it was simply lovely!" At dinner time, Mrs. Darling put down a dish of stewed apples for Peter. He looked around for the custard that Mrs. Darling usually made for him. There wasn't any. "The cow has sent you a present instead!" said Mrs. Darling.~and she gave Peter a dear little jug full of thick cream. How delicious it was! Peter poured it all at his apples. They tasted much nicer then usual. "So that also came from the cow, too!" said Peter "Well, it must be a very kind animal!" At tea time mother put a loaf of bread onhe table. Peter was surprised. Usually there were slices of bread and buutter. Mrs. Darling put down a blue dish on which there were little rll of new made yellow butter. "A present from e cow again!" "I have no money, but I can pay you with some magic seeds." "Certainly," said Basran, who immediately planted the seeds. When Basran reached home, he told his wife what has happened. "You silly man," his wife scolded him. "Next time collect money first." Basran did not hear what his wife said. He was thinking about the magic seeds. That night, he dreamt that he was climbing a tall tree. Suddenly he fell down. That morning, Basran was surprised to see a big tree with gold leaves and fruits. Suddenly he heard a voice said, "Pluck the gold leaves only. Do not pluck the red fruits." Basran plucked some gold leaves and sold them to the gold smith. He became rich. He gave half the money to his wife. However, his wife wanted more. Quietly, she plucked the red fruits and planted them. She thought, "I can get more gold trees. I'll be much richer." The Mouse N The Snail

All summer long the fieldmouse had lived in his tiny little hole at the botom of the sunny wall, the snail had lived nearby. At first they had taken no notice of one another at all,  and then the mouse had began to wonder why the snail always took his se whereever he went. "Why don't you leave your shelly house behind when you go out?" he said. "It seems silly to have drag it along with you all the time." "It may be silly to you,  but it's  perfectly sensible to me," said the snail. "I have a very soft body, and unless I wear my house over it, birds might fly down and peck me," said the snail. You see, I can't run away nearly as quickly as you can. I am a slow creature."  "Is your house heavy?" asked the mouse. "Can I come inside and have alook around?
"  "Of course not. It just fits me," said the snail. "And no, it isn't a bit heavy." "Shall we  have a game?" asked the mouse., who was young and frisky and loved playing games. "Let's play hide and seek. You shut your eyes and I'll hide." said the mouse. The snail rolled in his bigger pair of horns. "I'm hiding my eyes now!" he said. "My eyes are at the top of this pair of horns. I can pulll them inside whenever I like. Run and hide somewhere little mouse." The mouse thought they were very strange eyes to have, but he was even more surprised to see the  tongue that his new friend had. It was like a ribon tongue, and it was set with thousands and thousands of tiny backward pointing teeth! "Now you can see how it is that I manage to eat a lettuce leaf in a night!" said the snail. "I use my tongue exactly like a file!" The two became friends, thought the mouse never liked going for walks with the snail, because he was very slow in dragging his body along. Sometimes he left a bright silvery tail, and the mouse thought that was very pretty. "I shall have to say goodbye to you now," said the snail, one autumn day. "I feel sleppy, and shall I  for the whole winter." "No don't," said the mouse. "I stay awake throughout all of the winter and I shall want you to play with me. If you go to sleep I shall come and wake you up. I shall knock on your shell or I shall tickle you to make you wake up!" But went he next went to play with his friend he couldn't wake him up at all! How could he tickle the snail's soft body? The snail had grown a hard little front door over the entrance to his shell, and the mouse couldn't reach it! "He's not asleep! He's dead!" wept the mouse. "And he was so nice. He won't answer when I knocked on his shell! said the mouse. As you know the snail wasn't dead, but only asleep!..........THANKS FOR VISITING MY BLOG!!!!!!!!!!
